PRINTMAKING

Cyanotype Pressed Flowers

It was the corn poppies blooming in my yard that got me excited about this cyanotype series. The delicate folds of the flower in all of its glory made the perfect sun print and resemble an x-ray. I started collecting wildflowers and herbs from our daily hikes and pressing them in my exposure frame. I placed the flower directly on the glass of my frame, followed by the paper, and 15 minutes in full sun, the print was ready for processing.

I can hardly wait for next spring when my big poppies bloom. Until then, I will be practicing my brushstrokes and experimenting with alternative styles like circles and wispy lines.
